User groups

We would like to be able to assign our customers to different groups (i.e. Internal, Testing, Public). We would then grant access to individual product releases based on group membership. Customers would be assigned to groups manually (by an admin) or eventually through self-service routes like the user portal or invite links.

We’ve started some work on this!

From today, you can restrict pre-releases to certain groups:

Now, we don’t yet have custom groups, that’ll come as part of Custom groups/segments , that we are building together with email campaigns.

If you need a workaround today, you can create a separate “Beta channel” product, with no customer visibility, and hand out licenses for that to put them in a group.

This is already great! Would it be possible as a stopgap solution to extend the automatically generated groups to also include “people who own bundle X”? Right now it seems I can only target product owners, not bundle owners.

Ownership in Moonbase is based on actual licenses, wherever they may come from, and licenses are always for a specific product. This is why a customer will never “own” a bundle in Moonbase, and therefore makes this hard unfortunately. We may change this in the future, but for now this is not possible. This upcoming “custom groups” feature will let you select all users who have bought a bundle, which should be what you want.

Thanks for this input @Daniel ! I’ve had the same thought before, so it’s nice to see that it’s not just me.
